Wallowa Resources is a community-based 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation, established in 1996 with leadership from Wallowa County Commissioners. The Communications Coordinator is responsible for developing a strong brand identity and communication strategy for Wallowa Resources (WR). The position leads and oversees all use of the brand in WR’s messaging to boost awareness and understanding of WR’s mission, programs, projects, and partnerships. The position works in cooperation with WR’s programs and partners to ensure that communications and content coming from WR are clear, straightforward, timely, and consistent in messaging and quality. The Communications Coordinator advises WR staff and community partners on effective communications, and ensures created content and design reflect WR’s approved brand parameters and style guidelines.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
● Create short stories, posts, press releases, posters, and other content for local newspapers, website, social media, and media outlets in cooperation with WR programs and partners that reflect WR’s approved brand identify, strategy, parameters and style guidelines.
● Craft and implement a social media plan across diversified platforms that shares positive WR brand messaging, informs the public and builds WR’s support base.
● Supports local community events, such as the Woodlands & Watershed Festival, the Barn Dance and pub talks.
● Designs and compiles information for annual communication plans and annual reports.
● Provides communication support to the Barn Dance, Watershed Festival, symposiums, and other special events. Assists in event planning and preparation including creating ads and posters, coordinating food, and facility research, and leading the coordination of event logistics.
● Participates in Development Committee meetings, and supports logistics for fall donor ask letters.
● Attends board meetings, prepares board packets, and records and disseminates meeting minutes.
● Attend community/regional meetings and workshops as needed to stay abreast of current issues, build/preserve relationships, record notes, and share information with others.
● Manages WR’s website (squarespace) and social media platforms, and builds skills in order to better manage online content.
● Produces quarterly electronic newsletters via mailchimp, and any additional email campaigns needed to support events, fundraisers and special announcements.
● Obtains and organizes photos of programs and events as needed; coordinates and trains other staff members to take photos; and tracks and maintain photos on shared server.
● Helps train staff on how to develop business-related messages to use on social media.
EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
The following are the minimum levels required to successfully perform the Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities.
● Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Communications, Public Relations, English, or related field or equivalent relevant experience, preferred.
● Three years of experience in communications and strategy development work within philanthropic and/or nonprofit organizations including developing marketing materials, writing and editing for business publications and newsletters, and building strong professional networks, required.
● Demonstrated knowledge of maintaining and updating business websites and social media accounts/feeds with timely, relevant information and news.
● A valid Oregon Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record according to WR’s auto liability policy requirements.
● Ability to pass pre-employment background check.
● Must consistently demonstrate teamwork and positive day-to-day work relationships and interactions with staff, board members, members of the public, and community stakeholders.
Environment and Physical Requirements: The Communications Coordinator works primarily in a personal or at-home office environment; however, the position may occasionally visit field locations including parks, forests, farms, ranches and other outdoor locations. Those outdoor locations are subject to a variety of extreme weather conditions including heat, rain, snow, wind, and dust. The position travels occasionally by car and may occasionally have overnight travel. The Communications Coordinator interacts regularly with staff, visitors, vendors, government agencies, and others. The position sits, stands, walks, bends, lifts, stoops, and moves intermittently during working hours. The incumbent must be able to lift, push, pull and move files and other equipment in excess of 15 pounds.
Hours: The Communications Coordinator works full time, 32 hours a week, between the typical office hours of 8:00a.m. to 5:00p.m., Monday through Friday.
